Allergen-Free Crock Pot BBQ Ribs from Meri @The Food Yenta

As I continue to learn and share pastry recipes inspired by culinary school this month, I have another savory recipe for you from one of my talented friends, Meri.

I live in this awesome town. It’s a beautiful little village on the Hudson and the vibe is great. People are nice, I mean really nice here. It’s one of those places where you find yourself waving at people as you drive around or walk up and down Main St. Our Farmer’s Market is the best. Great weekly finds from our farmers and vendors, fun activities for the kids and live music. When I get there, one of the first people I see is Meri. She’s been working at the farmers market for years and she also write a blog, The Food Yenta, where she shares recipes inspired by her finds, the work she does with a great chef  and her general foodie cravings.

I love reading Meri’s blog and am often inspired by her recipes. This recipe has long been one of my favorites. I make it often, mostly exactly as written. Sometimes I just make the sauce and use it for chicken wings. Either way, it’s delicious and such a great summertime (or anytime) dish. I’m definitely making these ribs for the 4th of July. You should too! You should also follow Meri’s blog so you can see what she’s cooking with those farmer’s market goodies! You can also check her out on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram.

Enjoy!

My name is Meredith and I write the blog “The Food Yenta”. I’m a mom, blogger, photographer and food lover. I write about my love and passion for food as well as rant about great recipes, cooking shows, restaurants and my love of gardening and farmers markets. I take complicated recipes and simplify them for the modern family. When I am not blogging I’m taking pictures, wandering around bookstores, and chasing my kids through town (something i see myself doing for quite some time!).

Let’s get right to the point, good ribs take all day and no one has the time.  With two kids under six and a full time job ribs were never something I thought I could just whip up, I was wrong…

That crock-pot you have sitting around, the one you use all winter long…take it out. Get ready, it’s time for ribs.

Easy crock pot ribs. Easy as in, throw them in your crock-pot and then when you’re ready to eat, turn on your grill. That’s it.

Below you will find a basic homemade BBQ sauce recipe I use. It’s not hard (and Jackie tells me it’s allergy-free), but if you don’t have time, use your favorite bottled sauce (Bone Suckin’ Sauce is a great gluten-free option), pour half over ribs in your crock-pot and save the other half for the end product.

BBQ Crock Pot Ribs from Meri @The Food Yenta {Top 8 Free}
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 4

Ingredients
  • 1 rack of ribs
  • SAUCE:
  • ½ cup of ketchup
  • 3 tbl mustard (not the hot dog kind)
  • 3 tbl honey
  • 4 tbl brown sugar
  • 3 tbl apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp of hot sauce
Instructions
  1. Add your ribs to your crock pot. If you need to cut them in sections, feel free.
  2. Whisk together the bbq sauce ingredients. Pour over ribs. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 3-4.
  3. When the ribs become soft and soak up all the BBQ sauce I like to cut them up and placed them on the grill for about 2 minutes on each side. My family enjoys ribs bathed in sauce, I like to take the extra sauce and brush each side before flipping.
